"Targeted by the likes of Liverpool" - Fabrizio Romano on Bayern man

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Liverpool are interested in signing Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane.

The reporter said that there's talk of the 26-year-old being targeted by the Reds and Manchester United.

However, Romano further added that supporters of either club should not get too excited about being linked with Sane just yet.

“I’m aware that there’s growing talk of Leroy Sane being targeted by the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United, but I wouldn’t get too excited about it just yet," he told Caught Offside, as quoted by AW's Twitter account.

“Bayern have no intention of selling Leroy Sane. Robert Lewandowski has just left and more solutions will be needed throughout the season. It will be a tough deal for any club, and there are no offers on the Bayern table yet.”

Sane is contracted until the conclusion of the 2024-25 campaign. He possesses a current market value of £54 million.

Anfield Watch Verdict

We would be surprised if Liverpool made a move for Sane this summer. Yes, the winger is a top player.

Sane has scored 25 goals and registered 28 assists in 91 appearances for Bayern Munich.

The 26-year-old averaged a WhoScored player rating of 7.17 across 32 Bundesliga appearances last season.

But, the reality is, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp possesses a number of forward options (Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota).

Therefore, we would be surprised if the Reds signed another forward in the near future.

Liverpool do have an ageing midfield. Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara are in their 30s.

So, we would prefer to see the club invest in their midfield. Only time will tell if Liverpool are to make a move for Sane.
