"Superb" - Gary Lineker praises Luis Diaz for his performance against Benfica
Pundit Gary Lineker has praised Liverpool forward Luis Diaz for his performance against Benfica at the Estsdio da Luz last night.
The Reds defeated the Portuguese side 3-1 in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie. Diaz performed very well against Benfica.
The Colombia international scored and registered an assist during his 90-minute performance.
With that being the case, Lineker was full of praise for Diaz at the end of the match.
The former England international tweeted the following: "Superb goal from Diaz should seal it (the tie) for Liverpool. What a signing."
Anfield Watch Verdict
We completely agree with Lineker's take. Diaz has only been at the club since January. But, he has already settled into life at Anfield.
A lot of foreign players do take time to adjust to a new environment. However, as we saw last night, that has not been a problem for Diaz.
The Colombia international does not speak much English, which makes his rise even more remarkable. We don't know how he communicates with his teammates.
But, the good players always find a way to make things work. Diaz's efforts against Benfica certainly did not go unnoticed by Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, either.
“He’s a top player,” he said during his post-match press conference, as quoted by EuroSport. “He’s a top, top world level player. It’s a joy for me to work with Luis every day, and I’m more than happy that we decided to sign him in January.”
On another note, the second leg between Liverpool and Benfica will take place at Anfield on the 13th of April. The Reds are in the hunt for the Champions League, Premier League title and FA Cup.
It certainly is an exciting time to be a Liverpool supporter.
