"Similar a bit to Robbie Fowler" - Jamie Carragher compares Diogo Jota to ex-Red

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has compared Reds striker Diogo Jota to Robbie Fowler.

Since joining the club back in the summer of 2020, the Portugal international has proven to be a good poacher.

Jota has scored 33 goals in 71 appearances for Liverpool. With that being the case, Carragher has said that the 25-year-old reminds him of ex-Reds forward Fowler.

The Scouser told Sky Sports Premier League (7:21pm, April 4, 2022) the following: “That man, Jota, what a signing, an absolute predator, a goalscorer, similar a bit to Robbie Fowler of the past, so many goals in and around that box.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

As Carragher has explained, Jota is somewhat similar to Fowler. But, there is no denying that the Portugal international is currently a few levels off the 46-year-old.

Fowler scored 183 goals in 369 appearances for Liverpool's first-team. He was the club's main man for quite some time.

However, Fowler does believe that he was underrated as a player.

The former Red told The Athletic the following: “I don’t think I get the accolades I probably deserve when people talk about footballers over the Premier League era. I’m not sure why I don’t get that status.

“Listen, I’m not saying I was the best Premier League striker ever, but I do sometimes feel that some people gloss over what I achieved.”

Fowler is somewhat correct. He certainly does not get spoken about in the same light as Fernando Torres, Luis Suarez and Mohamed Salah.

But, we certainly remember how good of a player Fowler was. Hopefully Jota can turn out to be as half as good as him.

Fowler retired from professional football back in 2015. To conclude, we wish Jota all the best for the remainder of his Liverpool career.
