"Selling Naby now" - Jurgen Klopp on Keita's future

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has provided a transfer update on Reds midfielder Naby Keita.

The Guinea international has been linked with a move away from Anfield in recent times. Keita is reportedly unhappy with being a squad player under Klopp.

However, the 55-year-old has made it clear that the midfielder is not for sale.

Speaking with the media ahead of tonight's Premier League clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford, as quoted by The Athletic, Klopp said: “Selling Naby now and not replacing him? No, that is not possible. Of course not. It is not the plan.

“We are done. A player can go and we don’t replace him? No. Naby will not go but if he would, which he will not do, there would be a replacement of course.”

He further added: “There is another fact that I am not in charge of what we can spend. We get things told to us. Then we deal with it. That is always the same, never different.

“I always have to accept that and always did. It makes no sense to worry about something you cannot change. That is a waste of energy, a waste of positivity.

“I love this group and not because they are so good looking. No, because they are incredible characters. If the facts are the facts accept them and go from there.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

We are delighted to hear that the club won't be selling Keita this summer. The reality is, it would be very difficult to secure a replacement this late on in the window.

So, Liverpool would be silly to sell Keita. The midfielder's contract does expire at the conclusion of the 2022-23 campaign.

With that being the case, Keita could leave the club on a free transfer next summer.

It will be interesting to see where the 27-year-old's long-term future lies. Only time will tell.

On another note, Keita could feature against Manchester United at Old Trafford tonight.
