Richard Hughes has pulled off a transfer MASTERSTROKE as Liverpool look to COMPLETE double deal

It's a busy few days ahead for Liverpool as the transfer window nears an end this summer.

Richard Hughes has received a fair bit of slack at Liverpool this summer. Partly fuelled by the disastrous end to Liverpool's pursuit of Martin Zubimendi, but also inspired by the Reds' lack of transfer activity.

Yet, as we near the end of the window, the new Liverpool sporting director could be on course to deliver a spectacular and fruitful summer for the club.

Hughes is on the verge of completing two transfers for Liverpool and could look to do more business before the window shuts - having supplemented the Reds' income with plenty of sales.

Richard Hughes' genius work at Liverpool this summer

To begin, one only needs to look at Liverpool's excellent business to land Federico Chiesa. Last year, Juventus wanted £60m for his services. Now the Italian club have been willing to let him go for just £10.9m.

To summarise, that means Liverpool will be signing Chiesa for less money than they recouped in sell-ons this summer from Dominic Solanke (£9.2m), Kamil Grabara (£2.2m) and Luis Alberto (£1m).

On top of that, Hughes has also conducted shrewd business when it comes to sales sticking to his guns for the transfer price of Bobby Clark (£10m), Sepp van den Berg (£20m+£5m add-ons) and Fabio Carvalho (£20m+£7.5m add-ons).

With the Reds selling Harvey Blair to Portsmouth for another £300k, that means Hughes has generated an income of £62.7m this summer that could rise to £75.2m.

Of course, in the process Liverpool have secured a deal to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili for next summer for £25m plus £4m add-ons but even so, the Reds could stand to make a £35.3m profit this summer.

In an age where the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) have made it even more important to operate shrewdly Hughes has pulled off a masterstroke.

And that's before we even begin to mention the amount of players who have gone out on loan and who could yet bring in huge profit for Liverpool in the future.

Whatever happens for the remainder of the window, Hughes' first summer has been a success at Liverpool bringing in two fantastic additions and selling on many others for maximum profit.
