Report says Liverpool are leading race for highly rated attacking livewire

Reports continue to swirl over the head of Luis Diaz with the attacking livewire linked with Liverpool a lot in this first week of the January transfer window.

Some reports in the last few days have gone as far as to suggest that a deal for the player has nearly been agreed, but that has since been shut down by reporters such as The Athletic's James Pearce.

Indeed, it does seem unlikely that a move for Diaz is particularly forthcoming, at least in this current transfer window, but that is not to say that the Reds might not be looking to bring him in in the future - especially with the summer market of 2022 touted by many as a potentially busy one for the club.

According to Correio de Manha in Portugal, then, there remains firm interest in the player from Liverpool and, despite Manchester United apparently preparing a bid for the attacker, they claim that the Reds are firmly leading the race for his signature.

Anfield Watch Verdict

Liverpool would be wise to be looking at a player like Diaz for the years ahead but the Reds do not tend to spend big money in the January window and we cannot see that changing for the Colombian forward.

Make no mistake, he is a talented footballer who could fit in well under Jurgen Klopp but all the signs suggest that there will be no deal this month.

The summer, though, could be a different story and that is what many supporters will be keeping a keen eye out for.
