Real Madrid forward reportedly turned down Liverpool

Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr has turned down an approach from Liverpool in favour of signing a new contract with the La Liga club, according to Marca, as cited by The Echo.

The story states that the Brazil international rejected offers from the Reds, Manchester United and Chelsea to remain at the Bernabeu.

The Echo reported the following: 'Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr 'rejected' approaches from Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea in favour of signing a new contract at the Bernabeu, according to reports in Spain.

'Marca reported last week the 21-year-old is set to commit his future to the La Liga and Champions League winners by signing a new long-term deal that is expected to be announced next month. It will see him become 'one of the best paid' players at the club and is rumoured to include a €1 billion (£870 million) buy-out clause.'

Anfield Watch Verdict

Vinicius would have been a good signing for Liverpool. The forward possesses plenty of talent.

Vinicius has scored 36 goals and registered 43 assists in 170 appearances for Real Madrid's first-team.

He averaged a WhoScored player rating of 7.56 across the 2021-22 campaign.

Also, the Brazil international is only 21 years of age. Therefore, it would be fair to assume that he is far from the finished article.

Vinicius could have represented the club for a decade. But, as the aforementioned report implies, it just wasn't meant to be.

In saying that, Liverpool aren't short of attacking options (Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez).

We are confident that the Reds will be fine without Vinicius. The reality is, not every player will want to join Liverpool.
