Journalist Marco Timmer has implied, as cited by LFC Transfer Room's Twitter account, that PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo could make a move to Liverpool in the near future.

Timmer has revealed that the 22-year-old has spoken to the Reds. But, the journalist further added that Gakpo has also held talks with Manchester City.

The Netherlands international, who's contract expires in June 2026, possesses a current market value of €25 million.

Anfield Watch Verdict

Gakpo is a seriously talented footballer. The winger has scored 16 goals and registered 15 assists in 37 appearances for PSV's first-team.

Gakpo has also been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 7.75 across the 2021-22 campaign.

Former Netherlands midfielder Theo Janssen believes that the 22-year-old has all the tools to become a top player.

“That boy (Gakpo) has everything," he told NOS back in 2021. “Fine feeling for the ball, a good through ball, dribbles and is strong between the lines. “I really enjoy him. He is going to be an important player for the Orange squad (Netherlands).  “He is ready to be in the base of the Orange squad. I would definitely draft him. There are other options, but they are not as effective as him.”

Therefore, we would not be against the club making a move for Gakpo. As thing stand, Liverpool don't need a ready-made forward.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp already has Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz at his disposal.

So, if the Reds can convince Gakpo to sign as a squad player to begin with, we would like to see the transfer take place.

But, it might be difficult to convince a promising winger to sign as a squad player. The reality is, every young player wants to be playing regular senior football.

Only time will tell where Gakpo's long-term future lies.
