Liverpool defeated Aston Villa 2-1 at Villa Park last night to keep the Premier League title race alive.

Below are our player ratings from the game.

Alisson - Goalkeeper - 8/10

Alisson had a couple of shaky moments against Aston Villa. However, the Brazil international did make a couple of big saves.

It would be fair to say that Liverpool would not have won the match without Alisson.

Trent Alexander-Arnold - Right-back - 7.5/10

Alexander-Arnold was lively against Aston Villa. The right-back got close to goal with a couple of shots and should have registered an assist.

But, Naby Keita fluffed his lines.

Joel Matip - Centre-back - 7/10

Matip put Liverpool back on level terms after going behind. The centre-back took his chance well.

However, Matip was not great defensively. The Aston Villa attackers managed to get in behind him on a number of occasions.

Virgil van Dijk - Centre-back - 7/10

Van Dijk was also not at his best defensively against Aston Villa. There were a few times when the Dutchman looked flustered, which we don't say often.

Even Philippe Coutinho managed to dribble past Van Dijk. In saying that, perhaps we are being harsh on the centre-back. He has set such a high standard over the years.

But, we just felt Van Dijk was slightly off against the Villans.

Kostas Tsimikas - Left-back - 7/10

Jurgen Klopp opted to rest first-choice left-back Andy Robertson. So, Tsimikas was given an opportunity to start.

The Greece international performed reasonably well against Aston Villa. Tsimikas registered a WhoScored player rating of 7.33 for his 90-minute performance.

Fabinho - Holding Midfield - 5/10

It was a really bad night for Fabinho. The Brazil international lacked conviction on the ball.

Fabinho also picked up a muscle injury, which meant that he was taken off the pitch 30 minutes into the match.

Naby Keita - Midfield - 6.5/10

Keita struggled to get into the game in the first-half. In saying that, the Guinea international should have found the back of the net in the opening 45 minutes of action.

Instead, Keita completely missed the ball from inside the penalty area.

The midfielder was better in the second-half. He got involved in the play and caused Aston Villa's defence a few issues.

Curtis Jones - Midfield - 6.5/10

Jones' performance was similar to Keita's. There were times when the Scouser looked promising with the ball at his feet.

But, Jones just didn't show for the ball enough to have any impact on the match.

Luis Diaz - Forward - 8/10

Diaz registered the crucial assist against Aston Villa. The Colombia international's cross was the key reason why Mane was able to score.

With the title race being as close as it is, who knows how important Diaz's contribution will prove to be.

Diogo Jota - Forward - 6/10

We don't want to be too critical of Jota because he has been a squad player in recent weeks. It is not easy to come into the starting XI and have an immediate impact.

But, Jota offered very little against Aston Villa last night.

Sadio Mane - Forward - 9/10

Mane was brilliant against the Villans. The Senegal international pressed for a goal the entire 90 minutes and got his reward in the second-half.

Mane was Liverpool's best player on the night.

Substitutes

Jordan Henderson - Midfield - 7/10

Henderson played 60 minutes against Aston Villa and gave the Reds energy in the middle of the park.

Thiago Alcantara - Midfield - 7/10

Thiago came on 63 minutes into the clash and was aggressive. The Spaniard imposed himself on the game whenever he could.

Mohamed Salah - Forward - 5.5/10

Salah played the final 20 minutes of the match, but he had no real impact. The Egyptian international was almost a passenger.

In saying that, Salah wasn't given an awful lot of time to score or create a goal.
