Phil Foden makes Anfield admission ahead of Liverpool vs Manchester City title showdown

Manchester City star Phil Foden has called Sunday's game against Liverpool 'massive', while admitting his side have struggled at Anfield in recent years.

City kept up the pressure on Premier League leaders Liverpool at the weekend with a 3-1 win over rivals Manchester United, meaning the Reds are still just a single point clear at the top of the table.

With Arsenal just one point behind City, 2023/24 looks set to feature the most competitive title race in seasons as we approach the business end of the campaign.

This Sunday could provided a key moment in this season's battle for supremacy with Liverpool hosting City at Anfield.

A win for Jurgen Klopp's side will give them a huge boost going into the final ten games, even amid a continuing injury crisis.

Liverpool have reason to be optimistic going into the showdown.

The Reds' home record against City has been pretty strong in recent years, with City only winning once at Anfield in all competitions since Guardiola's arrival in 2016.

City talisman Foden is aware of the challenge facing his side this weekend.

"It's massive," he told Premier League Productions of Sunday's meeting. "It's a stadium we never seem to win a lot at, so it's going to be a challenge. It's the game you want to play in as players, the biggest occasions.

"Hopefully, we will be ready for it."

While Anfield has not been an especially happy hunting ground for City, Liverpool have not exactly been dominant against their rivals in recent meetings either.

Klopp has beaten City twice in the last five Premier League home games, winning 1-0 at Anfield last season courtesy of a Mohamed Salah goal and 3-1 in the 2019/20 campaign.

Of the other three games, two ended in draws and a 4-1 defeat back in the 2020/21 season.
