Which Liverpool forward will finish as top goalscorer this season?

Liverpool are blessed with a lot of world-class forwards and new-boy Darwin Nunez only adds to the strength in depth.

However, one player has been dominant in our top goalscorer charts since he joined the club back in 2017 - Mohamed Salah.

In this article, I'm going to see if we'll see a change in regards to Liverpool's top goalscorer for next season.

Fabio Carvalho

I wouldn't count Fabio Carvalho as a forward, but according to the Liverpool site, he is.

I think he'll create more than he scores across the 2022-23 campaign. He could pick up double digits in goals next season, but I'm not expecting him to be the best attacking midfielder to grace the game of football.

Roberto Firmino

As much as I love Roberto Firmino, I just can't see him getting the number required.

In the 2021-22 season, Firmino only scored 11 goals. However, he was a backup for a large majority of the campaign.

Next season, I'm expecting Jurgen Klopp to change to a 4-2-3-1 and I think the Brazilian and Carvalho will be the main candidates to play the number 10 position.

Just down to where I think he'll play, I can't see Bobby scoring more than 15 goals next campaign.

Diogo Jota

Diogo Jota had a great start to the 2021-22 Premier League season. He became Klopp's go-to striker after Firmino dropped off.

However, once Luis Diaz joined, the Portuguese player lost his place in the team.

Jota never really found his form again due to not having a solid run of games. However, the 25-year-old ended the season on 21 goals. A very impressive total considering he didn't play as much after January.

He ended up as the sixth highest scorer in the Premier League with 15 goals.

I think he'll probably end up on a similar number next season. So for me, I don't think he'll be the top goalscorer for the Reds, but he'll be up there for sure.

Luis Diaz

Since Diaz joined the club back in January, he has lacked end product in front of goal.

Despite only finding the back of the net six times in 26 appearances for Liverpool last season, we have seen glimmers of what he can produce and the goals he scored were very good.

Even in pre-season, he has come close to scoring multiple times.

Unfortunately, I just don't think he has the positioning needed to be an unbelievable goalscoring winger.

Thankfully, that isn't his game. Diaz is very direct and more of a traditional insider winger who wants to cut in on his right foot and curl it into the top corner.

We might see a massive improvement in his goalscoring form, but I would be surprised if he was at the top of the charts come the end of the season.

Darwin Nunez

In my opinion, it's between Nunez and Salah for the the main prize.

I'm going to start off with Nunez because he is a new signing.

Klopp has hinted that we are going to see a change in system with the signing of Nunez coming through.

Trent Alexander-Arnold now has someone tall (1.87m) to aim at and I think Nunez's skillset is perfectly suited to the Premier League.

I do think he needs to improve a bit on his finishing, but that will come with time.

Now, saying Nunez will be our top goalscorer in his first season is a bold claim. However, I think he is capable of finishing on top.

I'm expecting a strong start from the Uruguayan. I'll say that Nunez will score between 25-35 goals for Liverpool next campaign.

Mohamed Salah

Now, the player 99% of Liverpool fans are choosing to be their top goalscorer for next season and honestly, it's totally justified.

With his new deal being sorted out, Salah should come out firing next campaign and be back to his best.

If that is the case, then it wouldn't be a shock if he was to score a mountain of goals next campaign.

I can't see any other Liverpool player beating Salah unless Nunez has a freak season.
