'One of the best' - Luis Suarez gives ringing endorsement to Darwin Nunez
It's been a cracking weekend for the top strikers of Uruguayan football.
Darwin Nunez grabbed the headlines on Saturday afternoon as he headed in a 99th minute winner for Liverpool against Nottingham Forest, stealing three points that could prove crucial in the title race.
Making his return from injury after being sidelined for the Carabao Cup final, Nunez came to Jurgen Klopp's rescue to once again demonstrate just how much the number nine adds going forward.
However, he wasn't the only Uruguayan talisman to net notable goals this weekend.
Reds legend Luis Suarez bagged his first goals since joining up with Lionel Messi at MLS side Inter Miami, scoring a brace inside the first 11 minutes in a 5-0 win over Orlando City.
Suarez, who scored 81 goals in 133 games across all competitions for Liverpool, has long been a vocal admirer of Nunez, praising his international strike partner on numerous occasions.
And speaking after his game in Miami, El Pistolero revealed his joy at seeing his former employers pick up a late but vital victory, before giving yet another ringing endorsement of Nunez.
“Yes I saw [Darwin’s goal]," Suarez said.
"I am so happy for Liverpool and I am so happy for Darwin. He is one of the best strikers in the world today.”
Nunez had a tricky first season at Anfield following his £85m arrival, with inconsistency surrounding his final product becoming a frequent topic of discussion among fans.
However, he's silenced all doubters this campaign, coming up with the goods on multiple occasions and becoming a vital cog in Liverpool's rampant attack.
After becoming the first player across the top five leagues to register 10 goals and 10 assists in all competitions, he now sits at 14 goals and 11 assists from 38 games.
Nunez has also scored as many Premier League goals in 2024 as Everton. Always worth a mention.
