Despite that being the case, the 30-year-old does not receive too much credit from the media and pundits. However, Firmino's performances over the years have not gone unnoticed by Neville.
As quoted by HITC, the 47-year-old told his podcast the following: “Firmino, for me, he’s been one of my favourites over the past few years, I know he’s the one that’s understated and he’s underrated at times, but for me, he’s contributed unbelievable amounts to this club because of how he’s dovetailed.
"I think of players we appreciated at (Manchester) United that didn’t get the headlines, but were so important, and Firmino has done that role."
Anfield Watch Verdict
Firmino does not receive the credit that he deserves. However, we certainly know how good of a player he has been for Liverpool over the years.
Firmino has been having a decent 2021-22 campaign for the Reds. The forward has found the back of the net 11 times and registered four assists in 31 appearances.
In saying that, it would be fair to assume that Firmino's time at Liverpool is coming to an end. The Brazil international is contracted until the summer of 2023 and he is at the backend of his career.
We would love to see Firmino represent the club for a few more years, as he has been a fantastic servant. But, we are realistic.
Footballers can't represent the club forever.
