'Not a Liverpool manager' - Ex-Red not convinced by potential new Anfield boss

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy is unconvinced by the prospect of Thomas Tuchel replacing Jurgen Klopp in the Anfield dugout, suggesting the ex-Chelsea boss is "not a Liverpool manager".

Liverpool's search for an heir to Klopp's throne has been complicated in the last few days after the announcement that Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel would leave the Bundesliga club at the end of the season.

The German's departure means that Bayern are now targeting Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso, the former Liverpool star having been the Reds' number one candidate to replace Klopp.

However, Liverpool now face an almighty tug-of-war for Alonso's services, with the Reds needing a back-up plan in case the Spaniard decides on a move to the Allianz Arena instead of Anfield.

One of the names touted as a potential Klopp successor is Tuchel, the former Chelsea boss one of the elite managers who will be available this summer.

However, Danny Murphy believes a move for Tuchel would be a bad idea for the Reds, and that they should avoid appointing the 50-year-old come the end of the current campaign.

Speaking about links between Tuchel and the Reds, Murphy told talkSPORT: "No. He doesn’t fit them. He’s too divisive. He’s not a Liverpool manager. Not for me.

"It’s not a surprise to me [Tuchel leaving Bayern]. Let’s be honest, Bayern Munich should have lost the title to Borussia Dortmund last season - they ended up winning it on the final day.

"So things haven’t been great there for a while."

Tuchel would certainly be an unorthodox appointment for the Reds, with the former Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain manager not a typical Liverpool boss.

While he has great experience and pedigree - winning the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021 - his prickly nature and pragmatic tactics may not sit well with the Anfield faithful.

While Alonso is still clearly the number one choice this summer, Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim is another name linked with the Liverpool hot seat.

The Portuguese coach has worked wonders in Lisbon and is one of the most exciting young managers in Europe.
