Harvey Elliott now ranks 1st in Premier League after Luton display

Harvey Elliott set a Premier League high with his performance for Liverpool against Luton Town on Wednesday. No other player has matched him this season.

Harvey Elliot got a rare Premier League start on Wednesday - just the fourth of the campaign. It was a performance to remember, though, as Elliott stole the show for the Reds.

Most impressively, the 20-year-old created seven chances - all from open play - to help Liverpool to a 4-1 win. Per Whoscored, no Premier League player has created more in a game this season.

To go along with that, no Premier League player has created seven chances in a game at a younger age since 2008. A seriously impressive night for Elliott, then, who also set a series of match-highs for Liverpool.

No one had more touches (71) or was involved in creating more shots (8). Elliott also had nine more touches than anyone in the attacking third (46), while he carried the ball more than anyone else (48).

It's a particularly notable performance given Elliott is in contention to start the Carabao Cup final this weekend. Injuries to Curtis Jones and Dominik Szoboszlai have opened up a spot and either Elliott or Ryan Gravenberch will likely take it.

Now, Gravenberch also started against Luton and perhaps importantly, as a midfielder. Elliott took up Mohamed Salah's right-winger spot.

The Dutchman also left the pitch on 77 minutes, while Elliott played the full 90 minutes. That might suggest that Gravenberch was being saved for Sunday, though Elliott also needed 90 minutes more.

It's hard to gauge who will start, then. What's certainly for sure is that Elliott put in a performance worthy of earning a start in the final and his match-highs - let alone the league-high - show just how influential he can be.

With so many missing the final against Chelsea, having Elliott on the pitch in this kind of form could be game-changing.
