Moisés Caicedo rejects Liverpool as he "only wants to join Chelsea" - reports
In an incredible turn of events, it seems Liverpool's move for Moisés Caicedo is about to fall through.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Reds' move for the 21-year-old Ecuadorian is in jeopardy after the player's camp reportedly informed Liverpool that "he only wants to join Chelsea".
Liverpool reportedly agreed a £111-million fee with Brighton and Hove Albion last night after a three-way auction with Chelsea and Bayern Munich.
According to Sky Sports, the Reds ultimately came out as the highest bidders after battling it out with both Chelsea and Bayern Munich. It's understood that the Blues' highest bid was £100 million, while the German side bid £90 million.
However, despite no agreement being reached with Chelsea, Romano believes that the 21-year-old Ecuadorian still has eyes only for the West London club.
Chelsea have been pursuing Caicedo all summer and had a series of bids rejected, despite having already agreed personal terms at the end of May. It is believed that Caicedo wants to honour that commitment.
Whether Chelsea will be able to match Liverpool's bid remains to be seen as they have already agreed to pay Tyler Adams' £20-million release clause and this week placed a £48-million bid for long-term Liverpool target Roméo Lavia.
