Mo Salah becomes 4th player on exclusive Premier League list

Mo Salah made his return to Liverpool on Saturday as he came off the bench against Brentford. The Egyptian immediately hit a milestone.

Mo Salah is back for Liverpool. The Reds have been missing their star since the start of the year when he bagged twice against Newcastle United.

He then left for the Africa Cup of Nations where his tournament was quickly ended through injury. That injury meant that even with Egypt's early exit, Salah wasn't able to play for Liverpool until after the tournament anyway.

Finally, though, he's now back. Salah came on for the injured Diogo Jota against Brentford - a first-half sub after what looks like an awful injury.

He didn't exactly take long to get back in the flow, either. Salah assisted a second-half goal for Alexis Mac Allister with a fine pass into the box. The Egyptian then grabbed a goal of his own, capitalising on mistakes at the back to power through and finish.

A goal and an assist on his return - and as a substitute, no less. Salah is on form and flying, which is exactly what Liverpool need with all the injuries.

Salah scored and assisted goals in the same Premier League game for the 30th time here. He's only the fourth player to reach that mark in the competition, following in the footsteps of Thierry Henry, Wayne Rooney and Alan Shearer.

Next up is the challenge of doing this more than any other player. Salah is only one behind Shearer, two behind Rooney and six behind Henry.

It's highly unlikely that he scores and assists six more times this season, but it's not beyond the realm of possibility that he'd achieve it next season. If he stays around, of course.

There have been links with a move to Saudi Arabia and everyone expects an offer this summer. If Salah were to remain at Anfield, though, he'll have this record in his sights.

As well as many others.

It's also worth noting the other 'half' of this stat - how many fixtures each player has played. When put into that kind of perspective, Salah's efforts look even better.

Salah has played 252 times in the Premier League. Shearer, the player just above him, played 441 games and Wayne Rooney featured 491 times. It's only Henry who is at roughly the same rate - 258 games.

Liverpool's superstar can level Henry, then, if he gets both a goal and assist in two of his next six games. No one would put it past him.
