Man City reportedly beat Liverpool to signature of 82-goal forward

Manchester City are close to signing Borussia Dortmund forward and reported Liverpool target Erling Haaland, according to the Daily Mail.

The Citizens have agreed terms with the striker's representatives. Haaland is set to become the Premier League's highest-paid player on more than £500,000 a week.

The Sky Blues are likely to trigger the Norway international's £63million release clause in the coming weeks.

Anfield Watch Verdict

Haaland is a superstar. The forward has scored 82 goals and registered 23 assists in 85 appearances for Borussia Dortmund's first-team.

Former Arsenal forward Thierry Henry has certainly had plenty of good things to say about Haaland in the past.

"He's so powerful, by the way," the Frenchman told Sky Sports back in March 2021, as quoted by the Daily Mail.

"He just wants to run in behind and the way he finishes is ridiculous. The ability that he has: he believes so much in himself, and I like that.

"There's a bit of cockiness about him, if I can use that word. You've got to look at people and say, 'I'm going to score.'

"He doesn't want to go anywhere else other than to score goals - that's his mind. It's middle, middle or wide, wide, middle."

Therefore, it is a shame to hear that Haaland is on the verge of signing for one of Liverpool's rivals. The striker is already a world-class player.

But, because of Haaland's age, it would be fair to assume that he will only improve over time.

If the Norway international does sign with Manchester City, he could cause Liverpool some problems for quite a few years.

The Citizens are already a top side. There is a reason why they are the league leaders. With that being the case, Haaland joining Manchester City would concern us.
