Liverpool vs Luton Town - Predictions

Liverpool host Luton Town on Wednesday night, as they look to maintain their lead at the top of the Premier League table, ahead of Sunday's Carabao Cup final.

Jurgen Klopp's side remain unbeaten at home in 2023/24 and are strong favourites for the visit of the Hatters, as they look to keep up the pace at a crucial juncture in the season.

However, Liverpool could only draw with Luton in the reverse fixture at Kenilworth Road, with Luis Diaz coming off the bench to rescue a point late on in one of the most dramatic moments of the campaign so far.

That memory serves as a reminder that this is unlikely to be a walk in the park for Liverpool, despite the difference in the two sides' positions in the table.

The midweek encounter is made all the trickier by the fact that the Reds are missing a host of key players.

Here is how Anfield Watch's writers think Liverpool vs Luton might play out.

Liverpool vs Luton Town predictions

Ewan Ross-Murray: Klopp certainly has some selection dilemmas ahead of Luton's trip to Anfield but the Reds still have more than enough quality to claim all three points.

The Reds don't have too many options in reserve, so will want to make a quick start at Anfield. The crowd will have a big part to play against a spirited Luton side who showed their resilience in the reverse fixture.

Liverpool should get the job done as they continue their push for the Premier League title, although it will be far from straightforward.

Daryl Finch: I can see this being a tricky game for Liverpool.

With all of the injuries piling up and a big cup final on Sunday, Klopp is going to have to field a weakened team with quite a few youngsters in the squad - and Luton will be looking to capitalise on that.

They’re in decent form, and we saw in the reverse fixture that they’re capable of hurting us, especially on the break. I’m worried we won’t have enough options off the bench to change things, so this is definitely a potential banana skin.

Andy Headspeath: Liverpool could really do without this game. The Carabao Cup final is, of course, just days away and Klopp is already contending with a whole host of unavailable players and several others who could do with a rest.

The Reds need three points here but they also need to ensure nobody else picks up a knock.

A win shouldn't be taken as an absolute guarantee here, either. Luton are 18th but have proven themselves worthy opponents for Manchester United, Newcastle and Brighton lately and held Liverpool to that draw at Kenilworth Road.

With Klopp likely to rotate and half an eye on Sunday, this is the sort of game a newly increased Anfield crowd could play a big part in safeguarding against complacency.
