Liverpool transfers: Legend's gloomy verdict on Alexander-Arnold

The future of homegrown Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has been a topic of debate for the last few weeks.

With the England right-back having only one year left on his current contract, Kopites will be hoping a new deal is sorted soon so the only focus will be competing for major trophies this season.

However, one former Liverpool legend spotted something recently which he thinks signals the imminent departure of Trent.

In a recent podcast, Up Front with Simon Jordan, Graeme Souness claimed he believes Arne Slot is nurturing Northern Ireland international Conor Bradley to take over from Trent.

Souness gives his thoughts

Souness believes that Alexander-Arnold has already informed Liverpool of his plans to leave at the end of the season, therefore as result, Slot is now utilising Bradley more.

The younger defender has replaced Trent in all three Premier League games this season. In one of these instances against Brentford, the Reds number 66 was clearly aggravated by the manager's decision to sub him as he sat sternly on the bench, with a moody grimace at full-time leading to many rumours that he wanted to leave.

Souness further shared his wisdom on Trent’s future, saying: “I think, and this is just a guess, he’s mates with Bellingham and he would be tailor-made to Real Madrid. He could end up at Real Madrid. I think that message may have been relayed to Liverpool, he’s introduced Bradley both last week and this week, and by the way, he’s proper.

“I’m saying that maybe he has made up his mind and that has been relayed to the hierarchy at Liverpool. The manager is giving Bradley chances and keeping him onside, he’s having a good look at Bradley. That would be forward-planning.”

Of course Bradley is one for the future and he showed excellent progress with his performances last season. However, if Liverpool were to lose Alexander-Arnold, especially on a free transfer, it would be a catastrophe.

Liverpool will be hoping that Souness’ predictions are not true and Trent will tie down a new deal in the coming months.
