Trent Alexander-Arnold closing in on IMPRESSIVE Liverpool ALL-TIME record

Following his bright start to the season, Trent Alexander-Arnold has broken numerous records and milestones over the past few weeks.

And as the games begin to pile on in a jam-packed schedule, the right-back could be about to reach another significant achievement in his short career.

With his most recent assist against Bournemouth last weekend, Trent made it to 100 goal contributions for the club - 19 goals and 81 assists.

In doing so, he became the youngest player to reach the milestone since Steven Gerrard in 2005, except Trent has accomplished the feat from right-back.

The assist also brought him to third in Liverpool's highest assisters in the Premier League, surpassing Steve McManaman on 58 and edging past teammate Andy Robertson for most assists from a defender in the Premier League era.

But now, with a look to the future, Trent finds himself on the brink of history at Liverpool.

Liverpool's most prolific defender of all time?

According to LFCHistory, Liverpool's defender with the most goal-contributions for the club is Phil Neal with 104, whom Trent now sits just four goals/assists away from.

While it took Neal 650 games for the club to set the current record - albeit in an era where fullbacks were perhaps less attacking than they are now - Trent is averaging a goal contribution every 3.16 games, which could see him take the milestone in December's Merseyside derby away to Goodison Park.

Despite winning everything possible at club level with Liverpool, surpassing Neal would make him the undisputedly most prolific defender the club has ever seen.

Of course, Trent could end up meeting this milestone sooner rather than later, Liverpool's start to life under Arne Slot has been electric, with each of the attackers making their mark early on.

But it cannot be understated how significant it would be to surpass the record because at just 25 years old, there is a high likelihood the Scouser could run away with it and finish his career miles ahead of anyone else.

The Liverpool vice-captain announced earlier this week that he still has the ambition of becoming Liverpool captain one day and he's been working tirelessly on his all-round game in an effort to make him a defender that attackers fear coming up against.

His contract negotiations are lurking in the background of all of this and while many fans hope he will follow in Steven Gerrard's footsteps of being a 'one-club man', his future is uncertain.

Nonetheless, this record is almost certainly set to break this season and while at the peak of his powers, the defender may look to etch himself more and more into Liverpool folklore.
