Liverpool transfers: Adrien Rabiot now a free agent after Juventus contract expires
Reported Liverpool transfer target Adrien Rabiot is now officially a FREE AGENT following the expiry of his Juventus contract.
The 29-year-old has paused all conversations about his future until after the European Championship according to ilBiancoNero, with his France side having qualified for the quarter-finals after beating Belgium in the last 16.
Rabiot won’t be playing in the quarter-finals having picked up a suspension with Didier Deschamps now having a decision to make over who replaces the midfielder for the Portugal showdown.
It emerged last week that Liverpool were considering an attempt for the former Paris Saint-Germain star, who has been with Juve since moving on a free transfer in 2019.
The Italian giants were reported to have been surprised that their attempts to renew Rabiot’s contract before Euro 2024 had gone unanswered by the player and his agent, mother Veronique.
Rabiot was offered a new two-year deal with an option for a third on an annual salary of €7 million but jetted off to Germany with his Les Bleus’ colleagues before replying to Juventus club bosses.
'World class talent' available for free
The door therefore may be slightly ajar for interested suitors with Liverpool looking to solidify their midfield options under Arne Slot for the season ahead.
Juve remain reasonably confident that Rabiot will renew his deal, however, meaning Liverpool are missing out on a potential bargain signing.
The player, described as “world class” by David Trezeguet, is said to be enthused about working with new coach Thiago Motta, and the pair are former playing colleagues at PSG.
Rabiot has played over 200 times for the Old Lady, winning one Serie A title and two Coppa Italia crowns during his time with the club and finished as a runner-up at the 2022 World Cup with France.
Real Madrid have also been linked with a deal for Rabiot, with Toni Kroos retiring and Luka Modric still awaiting news on a renewal.
Liverpool look set to head into the season with largely the SAME midfield options as last term but Thiago Alcantara is out of contract.
That means a space in the squad for potential new signings with Rabiot’s French midfield colleague Youssouf Fofana also linked.
Former target Khephren Thuram, meanwhile, looks set for Juve and another familiar name in Manu Kone could also be leaving Borussia Monchengladbach for pastures new.
