The tenure of Trent Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool remains a mystery to fans, who are keen for the club to make a decision.

The 25-year-old, along with Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, only has one year left on his current contract before he becomes a free agent.

Trent has heavily been linked to Real Madrid this summer with his allegiance towards star Jude Bellingham being one of the factors swinging towards a move to Spain.

Now there has been a new twist in the story regarding Real and Liverpool’s dealing with the situation.

The latest mysterious update on Alexander-Arnold's future

Many rumours have circulated regarding the right-back's happiness at the club. After he was subbed off against Brentford, the Reds number 66 slumped onto the bench with a grimace on his face, putting into question his relationship with Arne Slot.

But, recent news has revealed that talks both on Liverpool’s side and Madrid's aren’t as advanced as first thought.

Spanish reporter Matte Moretto has recently stated that Real, “

have not made an official offer to Trent's agents, and the truth is

Liverpool have not got that far either. Before they make an offer, their talks with him will focus on deciding whether he wants to stay or not, and then negotiate on finances”

This is quite a mysterious update. It seems as though neither parties have made a move in this contract stand-off which means there is no way to tell how this will go.

Where does this leave Van Dijk and Salah?

We can also assume this means the same for Van Dijk and Salah, that no progress has been made for a new deal.

Of course, this will both worry and anger Liverpool fans. Firstly, due to the lack of action being taken to solve this matter and secondly, the fact that wages haven’t been discussed.

If Madrid were to make an offer, you would assume their deal would offer significantly more money than Liverpool’s. Therefore, Trent’s head may be turned and he would be on his way out of the door.

The positive news is that Real haven't made a formal offer and seem to be waiting for Trent to decide what he wants first.

This issue is sure to continue. But all Kopites can do is keep their fingers crossed and hope the Scouser born Red commits to a long-term deal at Anfield.
