Liverpool transfers: Reds suddenly in driving seat for Teun Koopmeiners

The way has been paved for Liverpool to sign Teun Koopmeiners, according to reports. The Reds like the Atalanta star.

Tutto Atalanta, part of the TuttoMercatoWeb network, claims Liverpool are in a great position to sign Teun Koopmeiners. The Dutch midfielder is expected to leave Atalanta this summer.

But the asking price, around £51m, is too much for Juventus to sign the player. Juve have been tipped as the strongest contender to sign Koopmeiners but they can't afford that fee.

The report now claims that should Koopmeiners leave, he'll leave Italy. They mention Liverpool specifically and how clubs with a bit more money to spend have the way paved for them as Juve could be out of the picture here.

It goes on to say that Liverpool are a realistic destination here - and it's certainly a transfer that makes a lot of sense.

Liverpool and Teun Koopmeiners

Liverpool have been linked with Koopmeiners for some time - back when he was playing for AZ Alkmaar, in fact. Notably, his manager at AZ was Arne Slot.

Slot is widely expected to join Liverpool this summer, of course, and that makes Koopmeiners an even more natural signing for the Reds. Especially with the player openly saying he wants to leave Atalanta.

The 'final' question here then might simply be how badly Liverpool need a midfielder. They've got a plethora of options in the middle, but Koopmeiners' form in Italy might put him on another level to most.

Throw in the fact he knows Slot's style better than anyone at Anfield and £51m could be a smart investment.

The next couple of months will be key, then. Liverpool will want to confirm Slot before making any massive signings like that, we imagine, but the pieces are falling into place here.

And if the Reds ultimately decide Koopmeiners is right for them, there might not be anything standing in their way.
