Liverpool set to snap up midfielder overlooked by Klopp for BARGAIN price

Liverpool have reportedly revived their interest in a long-term target this summer, with some reports suggesting that a move for Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram is imminent.

According to TuttoJuve, the Reds have reportedly "opened talks" to sign Thuram after the club's previous interest in the young Frenchman was sidelined by former manager Jurgen Klopp.

Last summer, despite heavy interest (and amid a lofty price tag), Klopp opted to sign Alexis Mac Allister, Wataru Endo, Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai during the so-called midfield overhaul.

Now, however, the departure of Thiago Alcantara on a free transfer has left a void that needs filling, and Thuram, with his standout performances for Nice, has re-emerged as a prime target.

Khephren Thuram available for a bargain price

The 23-year-old has been instrumental in helping Nice secure Europa League qualification and is known for his dribbling, take-ons, and impressive passing skills – attributes that Liverpool’s midfield has often been lacking.

Thuram’s current contract with Nice is set to expire at the end of next season, which positions him as a potential bargain buy this summer.

The midfielder is reportedly available at a vastly reduced price this summer with Nice-Matin reporting that the club would let him go for between €15 million and €20m - an unbelievable discount on his valuation just 12 months ago.

The Reds were reportedly quoted €60 million by the Ligue 1 side but chose to spend their money elsewhere.

Given that the midfielder is out of contract in 2025 and with little prospect of a new deal, it is thought that the Sir Jim Ratcliffe-owned club will cut their losses and take what they can get this summer instead of losing him for free.

A difficult season for Thuram

It’s been a challenging season for Thuram, who has recently faced boos and whistles from Nice supporters at the Allianz Riviera.

Despite this, he remained a key player, starting 24 Ligue 1 matches in central midfield, getting one goal and one assist.

In fact, Thuram's performances have kept him in contention for a spot in the France Olympic Games squad.
