Liverpool transfers: £55k-a-week star meets with agent as PSG line up move

Liverpool are facing a major decision this summer as Paris Saint-Germain consider a transfer for one of their stars in the transfer window.

The Telegraph claims Luis Diaz recently met with his agent on Merseyside as attention on him grows. The Colombian now has at least two European giants considering transfers.

Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are both named, with the latter far more likely to actually pursue anything. That’s simply a question of financial power.

And, of course, PSG will lose Kylian Mbappé this summer. The Frenchman’s contract expires at the end of the season, opening up their left flank for a new signing - and it could be Diaz.

There’s also a very good reason why Diaz might push for a transfer. The 27-year-old hasn’t actually received a new contract since his original over two years ago.

He arrived on a relatively low deal, too. Capology has him on £55k a week and for some context here, Darwin Nunez is on £140k. Cody Gakpo, who joined with less hype than Diaz, is on £120k.

So the Telegraph paint a picture - Liverpool either need to offer their left-winger a new contract or face a disillusioned player who, arguably with reason, may feel under appreciated.

Luis Diaz and his Liverpool future

Diaz has a pretty good reason here to ask questions of Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp leaving in the summer makes it even easier for him - he’s quite justified to ask for a show of faith from the club.

But it also makes it easy for Liverpool to avoid the new contract and deal with PSG. After all, the squad will have to change this summer with the new manager and there’s an abundance of forwards on the books.

A huge decision, then, and one that could lead to a major transfer this summer.
