Liverpool transfers: 'Betrayed' Kylian Mbappe AGREED Anfield move
Kylian Mbappe AGREED to join Liverpool in 2022 when relations with Paris Saint-Germain were at an all-time low.
That’s according to a new report in L’Equipe, which claims Mbappe’s disappointment in PSG’s sporting project led him to consider a move away from the club just weeks after signing a contract extension.

Mbappe, 25, was frustrated that the Parc des Princes outfit failed to land either Bernardo Silva or Robert Lewandowski in that transfer window and submitted a transfer request.
He had just earlier agreed a two-year extension with an option for a third year, which Mbappe neglected to take up before moving on a free transfer to Real Madrid this summer.
It is described in the report that Mbappe felt 'betrayed' by PSG's conduct and what he saw as the club's unfulfilled promises.
It is stated by the French source that Liverpool sent PSG a €200 million offer for Mbappe, and the player had even reached an agreement over a contract with the Anfield club.
This is said to have been a “short-term” deal, “allowing Mbappe to join Real Madrid in the medium term, as he then wished”. PSG, however, knocked back Liverpool’s offer. Sporting director at the time Antero Henrique told the Reds to come back with a €400m offer.
PSG deny Liverpool bid
Commenting on the situation, however, an unnamed source at PSG denies this version of events.
“Liverpool never came with a written offer,” the club says. “And Liverpool were never able to get this money.
“As soon as Mbappe renewed his contract, we agreed that in the event of an interesting offer for the player and the club, a solution would be found.
“After 2022, the only serious offer came from Saudi Arabia and was accepted by the club.”
The France captain was approached by Al-Hilal last summer after PSG agreed to sell him for €300m but he declined the opportunity to sign a bumper contract in the Saudi Pro League.
Mane out, Nunez in
What had been made public previously is Mbappe’s admiration of former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and the style of football he employed at Anfield.
Speaking to the BBC in 2020, Mbappe said: “This season, Liverpool have been a machine in the Premier League. They have made winning look easy but the truth is that it is never easy.
“Performances, like they have been having, don't just happen. To be as ruthless as they have been would come from lots of hard work in training and from having a very good manager.”
In the summer of 2022, Liverpool sold Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich with a space potentially opening up for a superstar arrival. However Darwin Nunez was the big-name signing, sealing a mammoth deal from Benfica.
