Bayern Munich are finding it ‘difficult’ to renew German star Jamal Musiala’s contract, with Liverpool hoping to capitalise.

Liverpool have been placed on high alert for the attacking midfielder according to CaughtOffside, despite Bayern wanting to keep him at the club, and will be hopeful that the contract renewal difficulties continue.

The German side’s sporting director, Max Eberl, who Liverpool tried to recruit in 2022, spoke after Bayern’s win at the weekend, and said: “Yes, it is difficult. It is difficult, but it is not impossible - because Jamal knows what he has at Bayern. He grew up here, he earned his first merits, he has brought himself to this level.”

Liverpool are just one of many interested clubs, with Manchester City, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain also hoping the 21-year-old has issues renewing his current contract, which expires in 2026. That's according to a new report in Sport 1

Can Liverpool tempt Musiala to Anfield?

Musiala is widely viewed as one Europe’s top talents, and is seen as a key figure in the future of German football, named in the UEFA team of the tournament at Euro 2024. Bayern’s president Herbert Hainer has also said Musiala is the face of Bayern and that they want to build the team around him.

However he does have links to England, starting his youth career at Chelsea and also representing the Three Lions at youth level, before deciding to represent Germany internationally.

Liverpool and Man City would both be interested in his signature, however attracting him would be just one of the issues, with a reported price tag of €180 million. This fee would make him the most expensive Premier League transfer of all time and the third most expensive overall behind Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

Ex-Liverpool star's warning

Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann issued a warning to the Reds in a Sky Sports column last week, suggesting Musiala was more focused on individualistic dribbling than being a part of an effective unit.

Discussing Musiala he said: "You can play successful football with Musiala, but if you look at the past few years, Bayern have mostly been dependent on individual actions. This is also related to Musiala.

“Apart from him, there is hardly a player in the number 10 in world football who is a pure one-on-one player. The flow of the game also suffers as a result.

“Musiala is more of a solo player and often a solo entertainer. If he gets the ball ten times, he puts his head down nine times and starts dribbling," he added.
