Liverpool considering a SURPRISE swoop for in-demand Ademola Lookman

Liverpool are reportedly considering a surprise swoop that could raise eyebrows on both sides of Merseyside.

With doubts persisting over the futures of both Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah, the Reds have reportedly already approached the representatives of former Everton forward Ademola Lookman over a return to England this summer.

That said, should they wish to pursue the Atalanta winger, they will have to act fast, amid interest from Paris Saint-Germain, as well as Premier League rivals Arsenal, who are also eager to secure his signature.

Atalanta looking for £50+ for Lookman

Despite his past association with Everton, Liverpool’s interest in Lookman has intensified, as the 26-year-old forward continues to impress at Italian club Atalanta.

Atalanta are reportedly demanding €60 million (£51.1m) for Lookman, a fee that reflects his growing importance to the Italian side.

Liverpool’s potential acquisition of Lookman is part of a broader strategy to enhance their attacking depth, particularly in wide areas, where coach Arne Slot has historically stacked his squads with pacy players who are capable of beating defenders in one-on-one situations.

At present, Liverpool only have the aforementioned Diaz and Salah who can perform this role, with the likes of Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota preferring to operate more centrally.

Diaz has long been linked with a move to Barcelona (and more recently Manchester City), while rumours of a Saudi switch for Salah won't go away.

It, therefore, makes sense that the club would look to strengthen in this area.

Lookman's Italian Renaissance

Lookman, who began his career at Charlton Athletic before joining Everton in 2017, struggled to make a significant impact during his time at Goodison Park.

After scoring just four goals in 48 appearances for Everton, the versatile forward moved abroad, where he revitalised his career, first with RB Leipzig and then during a loan spell at Leicester City.

The turning point in Lookman’s career came following his transfer to Atalanta in August 2022. His time in Serie A has seen him emerge as one of the league’s most dangerous forwards, netting 17 goals and providing 10 assists in 45 games last season.

Lookman played a pivotal role in helping Atalanta secure the Europa League title and reach the Coppa Italia final, performances that have caught the eye of Liverpool’s scouts.
