Liverpool transfers: Alexis Mac Allister's father on Real Madrid 'negotiations'
Alexis Mac Allister is coming off another successful summer having claimed the Copa America title for Argentina in the United States.
Mac Allister, 25, was named in CBS Soccer’s Team of the Tournament as the Albiceleste took glory ahead of Luis Diaz’s Colombia.
That success followed a standout first season with Liverpool after joining from Brighton for a bargain £35 million fee back in 2023.
The midfielder played 46 times in all competitions, scoring seven goals and adding seven assists.
He was among the best players for Jurgen Klopp’s side last season and is now taking a well-earned break following the conclusion of the Copa.
Liverpool fans are excited to see what Alexis can do under new head coach Arne Slot, who will be plotting how to get the best out of the Argentine World Cup winner.
Real Madrid interested in Mac Allister
Some concerning reports emerged towards the end of the season linking the former Boca Juniors star with a summer 2025 transfer to Real Madrid.
With Toni Kroos now retired and Luka Modric inking a one-year extension until next summer, Los Blancos will be seeking to overhaul their midfield and add a quality reinforcement once the Croatian legend departs.
Directvsports in Argentina suggested that Real would seek to activate a little-known €70m clause in Mac Allister’s Liverpool contract and attract him to the Spanish capital.
However, those rumours were given the short shrift by Liverpool sources, who insisted no such clause existed.
As such if Real would like to add Alexis to their roster they will have to front up with a sizeable bid.
Mac Allister happy at Liverpool
Encouragingly, Mac Allister’s father, former Argentina international Carlos Mac Allister, has sought to reassure fans by declaring that there are no discussions in place with Real Madrid and that Alexis is happy with Liverpool.
Speaking to AboutMSR, Mac Allister also stated that any approach for his son’s services would have to be run by the Reds’ decision makers first.
“Alexis is performing very well at Liverpool, and this is the important thing to say at the moment,” he said.
"There are no negotiations from Real Madrid with Alexis, and the player will continue with Liverpool next season."
"If future offers arrive to sign Alexis, we will discuss them with Liverpool's management first.”
Alexis is under contract with Liverpool until 2028 and will have a big part to play in the post-Klopp future.
