Liverpool transfer target Morten Frendup revealed he was a fan of the club during an interview he gave in 2018.

As first reported by Anfield Watch last year, the Reds have been monitoring the Danish midfielder in recent times, keeping tabs on his performances for Serie A side Genoa.

Frendup is a regular starter in Italy, having worked his way into the side since joining from Brondby in 2022.

Featuring in every game this season, he is capable of operating as a defensive midfielder but can also play in a more attacking role on the left flank.

The Reds are joined by Tottenham Hotspur in the race for the 22-year-old, who are reportedly looking to acquire another Genoa player after completing the signing of defender Radu Dragusin earlier this month.

However, Frendup's allegiances may give Liverpool the edge in any race for his signature, having admitted six years ago to being a supporter of the club at the age of 16.

Speaking to Danish outlet Sjællandske Nyheder in 2018, he said: "It’s a dream I’ve always had [to play for Liverpool], and I believe it will succeed. If I work hard, I believe in it."

With two years remaining on his current contract, Liverpool would likely have to pay full price for the midfielder, with it unlikely that Genoa would feel any pressure to sell and thus severely reduce their asking price.
