Liverpool are now 'in negotiations' with Bayern Munich over the permanent transfer of Ryan Gravenberch.

The Reds have long been admirers of the Netherlands international, with Anfield Watch reporting this week that the 21-year-old is high on the club's shortlist for a fourth midfield arrival late in the transfer window.

Liverpool want another versatile option in the centre of the park, while Gravenberch is keen for more game time, having seen his opportunities limited at Bayern.

Gravenberch – though seen as top talent – started just three Bundesliga matches for Bayern in 2022/23 and has just one substitute appearance to his name so far this season.

Speaking about his future over the weekend, Gravenberch told reporters: "I don't know what will happen in the next days."

The Athletic's David Ornstein now reports that Liverpool and Bayern have opened talks over the player's transfer and are 'discussing their respective valuations'.

It is expected that Liverpool will make a formal bid for the 21-year-old if 'the finances are achievable'. However, it is not indicated how much Bayern would seek for the player they paid around €18m for last summer.

Ornstein's update adds that Gravenberch favours a move to Liverpool over Manchester United, who have also been linked with the former Ajax star. However, with just over 48 hours remaining in the summer transfer window, the big caveat is that Bayern want to secure a replacement before sanctioning a deal.

The German champions are thought to be eyeing a deal for Fulham's Joao Palhinha, though it will be a race against time to get the deals completed.
