Liverpool have been urged to make an early move for Sevilla star Juanlu Sanchez, before allowing him to temporarily return to his boyhood club.

On Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson pointed to Liverpool’s summer acquisition of Giorgi Mamardashvili as a potential blueprint for securing the 21-year-old right-back.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract nearing its end, Sanchez has been linked to a move to the Premier League side. The young defender has been one of the few standout performers for Sevilla in what has been a lacklustre season so far.

Much like Alexander-Arnold, Sanchez is an attacking right-back, and he's already made an impact, scoring once in just 310 minutes of La Liga action this season.

Recent reports by El Nacional suggest that Sevilla are prepared to accept €25 million, which is roughly £21m, for the highly-rated young right-back and Liverpool are willing to offer that asking fee in order to land his services.

Robinson sees Sanchez as a long-term replacement for Trent, noting that he’s not ready for immediate Premier League action if Alexander-Arnold were to depart in January. Instead, Sanchez would be more of a future asset for Liverpool, potentially benefiting from another loan spell to gain further experience. Trent Alexander-Arnold Liverpool 2024-25

“I think someone like Sanchez, that’s a long-term replacement”, Robinson told Football Insider.

“You look at the goalkeeper, Mamardashvili, that type of player that they’re signing, somebody like Sanchez at his age would be possibly a signing and then loan back out again, 21 years old. He was out on loan for 2022-23 so he’s not a player you would look at and think ‘Is he a direct replacement for Trent?

“If they lose Trent in January he doesn’t start playing for Liverpool in the Premier League in January. He’s definitely one for the future and for a long-term signing. Very, very good player.”
