Liverpool are willing to fight a host of top European clubs to sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie, according to a recent report.

The Reds have been strongly linked with reinforcing their defence this summer and Hincapie is a name that has come up previously. Anfield Watch already revealed that Liverpool had seen an approach for the Ecuadorian centre-back rejected last January.

The 22-year-old left-footer has unsurprisingly caught Liverpool's attention given his excellent performances for Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen, including helping Die Werkself win the domestic double last season.

Also capable of playing left-back, it's evident why Hincapie is so highly-rated, and it appears that the Reds are still intrigued by the prospect of signing the youngster this summer.

Liverpool still eager to sign Piero Hincapie

According to El Comercio, Liverpool are one of many clubs pursuing Hincapie before the transfer window shuts, with his days supposedly 'numbered' at Bayer Leverkusen.

One of the main reasons behind an increasingly probable exit is that the Ecuador international wants more regular playing time in the 2024/25 season.

The report states that Liverpool are among three Premier League clubs keen on the defender and will have to battle Tottenham Hotspur and rivals Manchester United for his signature.

Elsewhere, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid are also interested despite signing new centre-backs this summer already.

It's been previously claimed that Hincapie would cost the Reds approximately £45 to £60m - a figure that could be prohibitive for Liverpool.

It's also been stated recently that Bayer Leverkusen have entered the race for Liverpool defender Sepp van den Berg, potentially opening the door to a swap deal of some description.

However, Liverpool fans expecting any signings between now and the end of the summer window may be left disappointed, with some journalists suggesting that the Reds won't bolster their squad in the coming weeks.
