Liverpool may not have a new sporting director or a Jurgen Klopp successor lined up, but that doesn't stop the rumour mill churning out fresh stories.
Here is the latest Liverpool transfer news from Friday 1 March, including some Fabrizio Romano updates, centre-back links and Federico Chiesa interest.
LIVERPOOL TO TARGET WINGERS AND CENTRE-BACKS THIS SUMMER
Liverpool are set to target wingers and centre-backs this summer as they aim to bolster their already impressive squad, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Regardless of who comes in behind the scenes as the club's sporting director, Liverpool are known to be likely to target defenders in the upcoming window, with the position a long-term concern.
Transfer reporter Romano backs up Liverpool interest in supplementing the backline, while adding that the club are also 'keeping an eye' on wingers this summer, name-checking Wolves star Pedro Neto.
"I think they will keep an eye on wingers, this is a position they could cover," he told his Here We Go podcast. "Because they are following some players, sending their scouts to follow some players, maybe a signing from another country, not only in England.
"For example, in England, a player appreciated by many clubs is Pedro Neto. Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham, many clubs have been scouting him for a long time.
"Liverpool are also following foreign markets for wingers, so that could be one to watch and then a new centre-back."
OUMAR SOLET TARGETED BY THE REDS IN JANUARY
Liverpool considered making an approach for RB Salzburg centre-back Oumar Solet last January, but decided against a move for the 24-year-old.
The Reds chose not to strengthen their squad in the winter despite a steady stream of injuries, with the club opting to wait until the summer transfer window before bolstering their defensive unit.
Liverpool were linked with a whole host of names, including the likes of Goncalo Inacio and Piero Hincapie, the Reds even seeing an approach for the Bayer Leverkusen defender turned down last January.
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool were also considering an approach for RB Salzburg defender Oumar Solet, but chose not to make a formal offer for the highly-rated centre-back.
Speaking on the Here We Go podcast, Romano stated: "For Liverpool, centre-back is an important position.
"Oumar Solet from Salzburg was a possibility in January then they decided not to proceed, not to do anything in the January transfer window, to move directly in the summer.
"Now I think the priority for Liverpool will be to find the right centre-back to put some fresh energy in that position."
FEDERICO CHIESA LINKED WITH ANFIELD SWITCH
Juventus are reportedly "willing to talk" to Liverpool regarding a potential move for long-term target Federico Chiesa.
The Reds have frequently been linked with the explosive Juventus winger over the past few years, although the club have never made any formal proposals to the Italian giants.
The 26-year-old's contract expires in 2025 and, according to Italian outlet Tuttosport, Juventus are interested in tying the winger down to a new deal in Turin.
However, the Old Lady can't currently match the contract demands of Federico Chiesa, and they are sceptical about significantly increasing their offer to the attacker given his recent performances.
As a result, the Italian side are "willing to talk" to Chiesa's potential suitors over a summer transfer, with Tuttosport reporting that Liverpool "interest has not waned" regarding the 2020 European Championship winner.
Liverpool supposedly asked for information regarding Chiesa last summer, but would need to fork out over £40m to open discussions with Juventus.
FLORIAN WIRTZ NOT ON THE MOVE THIS SUMMER?
Hans-Joachim Wirtz, the father and agent of starlet Florian Wirtz, insists that the Bayer Leverkusen attacker is likely to stay at the club until his contract runs out in 2027.
Florian Wirtz has been an essential part of the Leverkusen squad this season, helping Die Werkself reach the top of the Bundesliga table, where they currently sit eight points ahead of Bayern Munich.
The 20-year-old attacking midfielder has flourished under Liverpool managerial target Xabi Alonso this term, producing eight goals and 17 assists in just 31 matches in all competitions.
As a result, Europe's elite clubs have been linked with the German international, with Liverpool among those keeping a close eye on his progress.
Speculation over a move to Anfield will only ramp up if Alonso is appointed as Jurgen Klopp's successor, but Wirtz's father and agent insists that his son has no plans to leave the BayArena any time soon.
"Florian has a contract in Leverkusen until 2027," he told Kolner Stadt-Anzeiger. "That will also roughly be the amount of time he will spend in Leverkusen.
"There is no answer to what happens when. We should wait for the next two years and then we will see where the path leads."
