Liverpool transfer news today: Simons WANTED, Van Dijk UPDATE, Reds LOVE new signing

Here’s all the latest Liverpool transfer news for you to catch up on. The Reds want Xavi Simons.

Liverpool like Simons

Xavi Simons is one of the best young players in the world and will be available for transfer next season, according to the latest reports in Germany.

A player of Simons' talent is bound to garner plenty of attention, especially following his good performances at EURO 2024 in an attacking role for the Netherlands, where he scored for his country against England in the semi-final.

Liverpool were reported to be interested in signing the PSG player during the summer, but he decided to return to RB Leipzig on a loan deal for one more year. However, the club could go back in for him if the opportunity arises in 2025.

"Liverpool were also extremely keen on him this summer," said Yvonne Gabriel, who covers Leipzig for German outlet BILD. "There is a good connection to coach Arne Slot."

Simons had an offer from Man Utd in 2022, but chose to go to Leipzig because there were better development opportunities.

Mac City have also been linked with Simons due to the fact that Kevin de Bruyne's contract expires in 2025, and the Dutch midfielder could be an ideal replacement for Guardiola's side.

Van Dijk chased

Virgil van Dijk Liverpool 2024-25

Liverpool could lose a legendary player very soon with two European giants believing he’s open to a transfer.

Fichajes in Spain understands that Virgil van Dijk could swap Liverpool for Italy. The Dutchman is out of contract in the summer, with little suggesting that a new one is imminent.

That has Inter and Juventus both watching Van Dijk's situation closely. They're shaping up to be the 'main candidates' for his next destination - should no new Merseyside contract arrive.

Liverpool do want Van Dijk to re-sign with them, however. That would at least tell us that an offer is on the way, though it's completely unclear whether the Reds' captain is up for committing his long-term future to Anfield.

After all, this is likely to be the last major contract of his entire career.

Liverpool love new signing

Rio Ngumoha Liverpool Anfield

The club are extremely excited about Rio Ngumoha's signing, and believe he could be an important part of the first team in years to come, according to Fabrizio Romano.

"They signed him on a free transfer from Chelsea because he left the academy, but this guy – born in 2008 – is considered more than a talent," Romano said on his YouTube channel.

"Liverpool are in love with this talent," he added. "They obviously have been scouting him for a long time but they believe Rio is not just a youngster who will be part of the academy, they believe the potential is really insane for this boy.

"They had to pay an important compensation fee so free, yes, but still with a big compensation fee, but at the same time Liverpool believe they have got one of the best talents around."

Van Dijk's contract update

Fabrizio Romano has provided another update on Virgil van Dijk's contract situation, as just over three months remain before the Liverpool legend will be able to negotiate with other clubs about a potential move away from Anfield.

The Liverpool captain is in a similar situation to stars Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contracts are both due to expire next summer, leaving Sporting Director Richard Hughes in a difficult position as he tries to convince them to stay.

Romano has said that while van Dijk has yet to talk to Liverpool about a new contract, he has also not spoken to any other clubs to date.

"Every day we have different stories,' Romano said on his YouTube channel. "One day it's Mo Salah, the next it is Virgil van Dijk, and there is also the situation of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

"For van Dijk, what I'm told is that it really seems like a [similar] situation to Mo Salah. There will be conversations, this is what sources say about the story."

"Virgil – before making any decision on his future – will talk to Liverpool, and Liverpool – before making any decision on their future plan will have negotiations with van Dijk over a new deal, over the project, over the length of a potential new contract, the salary."
