Liverpool transfer news today: Salah 'OPENS' Saudi talks, £45m deal could TORPEDO Van Dijk contract
Here's all your latest Liverpool transfer news with updates on Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ederson, Branthwaite and more.
Fabrizio Romano update on Trent
With a mere eight months left on his current deal with Liverpool, Trent Alexander-Arnold has persistently been linked with Real Madrid - and Fabrizio Romano has the latest information.
It’s no secret that Alexander-Arnold is a key target for Real Madrid given their propensity for signing superstars on dwindling contracts, with Kylian Mbappe being the latest example in a long list.
Indeed, 25 years ago the same was true of Steve McManaman, and there are worrying parallels with the ongoing situation.
In his latest update on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano said: "What I’m told is that today, Real Madrid are not negotiating with Alexander-Arnold – they are not discussing terms of a contract, salary, or project.”
Landmark FIFA decision revolutionises player transfers
Following a long-running legal dispute with FIFA, former Chelsea and Arsenal player Lassana Diarra has won a landmark decision after his case was victorious in the European Court of Justice (ECJ).
The ECJ found that Diarra was right to challenge his wrongful contract termination at Lokomotiv Moscow in 2014 - a decision that could drastically revolutionise how transfers are conducted across Europe.
After leaving the Russian club, Diarra then agreed to join Belgian club Charleroi, although FIFA refused to issue the club with an International Transfer Certificate (ITC), which is an essential part of registering a newly signed player, so the move collapsed.
This tactic from FIFA, was today agreed to have been illegal - breaching the EU's freedom of movement and competition law - a substantial victory for Diarra's legal team, but a decision which will now result in significantly relaxed conditions surrounding player power in the transfer market.
Salah told former teammate Rudiger "I'm leaving"
Mo Salah’s contract has been one of the main talking points around the entirety of Liverpool this season.
The talismanic attacker - along with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk - has his contract expiring at the end of the season. And whilst fans would never want to see a club legend go, the current rumours are that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) is readying a monumental deal to secure his services.
Speaking on The Inside Scoop, current Real Madrid centre-back Antonio Rudiger weighed in on his experiences with Salah during their days together at AS Roma.
He revealed that Salah let him know that he would be off to Anfield, where he has taken his game to another level.
New Brazilian midfield target eager for move
Despite only being at the club for a number of months, Arne Slot has already made an impact and currently has Liverpool top of the Premier League.
The Dutchman has also done so without splashing the cash at Liverpool, with Federico Chiesa being the only senior addition to the squad this summer.
However, it is being reported that Liverpool could be about to re-enter the transfer market in order to further strengthen Slot’s squad and after being linked with Liverpool constantly during the summer Ederson, the 25-year-old midfielder who currently plays for Atalanta, is now being linked again.
According to TBR Football, Liverpool are interested in the Brazilian and sent scouts to watch Atalanta’s recent Champions League game against Shakhtar Donetsk and the midfielder is open to a move to the Premier League in 2025.
Liverpool's opportunity to get one over Man United and Everton
Liverpool are thriving under new head coach Arne Slot and the Reds now have the chance to get one over on two of their biggest rivals.
Despite opening the season with a remarkable amount of defensive stability, the Reds may be looking at ensuring their defensive strength continues long into the future with the addition of a new centre-back.
Recent reports suggest that Liverpool have reignited their interest in long-term target Jarrad Branthwaite and that they could make a move for the Everton star in January.
Branthwaite is widely regarded as one of Everton’s best players, and while it would wind the Toffees up to no end to see their star man playing for Liverpool, the 22-year-old has also been the subject of heavy interest from Manchester United.
£45m deal could scupper Van Dijk talks
In a recent interview with TNT Sports, the Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk revealed that Joe Gomez is his best friend in football.
The long-serving defender has been at Virgil's side since day one, winning the Premier League and Champions League among other honours together.
The Reds recently tried to sell Gomez to Newcastle with a fee of £45 million discussed. And it is expected that the Magpies as well as Aston Villa might well come back in for the England international in January.
Now that we know one of Virgil's key Anfield allies could well be on the way out of the club, it may well lead to Van Dijk feeling unhappy at his friend leaving.
Danns set for January loan
At just 18 years old, Jayden Danns is a player earmarked for a long-term future at Anfield.
The youngster is regarded very highly at the club after catching the eye last season by scoring an ample amount of goals for the club's academy sides and even making his mark on the first team.
But he is yet to prove himself in front of Arne Slot after injury prevented him from being involved with the first team since the summer.
In an update on his YouTube channel, journalist David Lynch for Anfield Agenda said: "Liverpool’s plan isn’t necessarily to loan him out straight away but for him to be involved in first-team training.
“The idea is to get him in and around training between now and January, let the manager have a really close look at him because he’s a very promising player, and then make the decision on whether he makes the move out and goes for a loan in the second half of the season.
“He’s very, very close now to coming back.”
Salah starts Saudi talks
Mohamed Salah’s red-hot start to the campaign has been overshadowed somewhat by the fact that this could be his last season in a Liverpool shirt and now the Egyptian King is reportedly already in discussions over a move away from Merseyside.
It is common knowledge that Salah has entered the last year of his contract at Liverpool and, although both the player and his agent have not spoken openly about where his future lies, speculation about the 32-year-old is rife.
Now, a fresh report from CaughtOffside has suggested that Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli are currently engaged in discussions to bring the Egyptian winger to the club.
