Liverpool-linked Teun Koopmeiners has issued something of a 'come and get me' plea to the the Reds as he admitted he will be seeking to leave Atalanta this summer.

The 26-year-old Netherlands international joined Atalanta in 2021 and has made over 100 appearances in all competitions to date.

Koopmeiners has been one of the stars of the season in Serie A in 2023/24. Playing in a more advanced role, the midfielder has scored ten times and registering three assists in 25 league outings.

His form has reportedly drawn attention from a number of clubs, with Liverpool among those regularly linked with the £50m-rated star.

Now stoking the fires of speculation, Koopmeiners has revealed he will be seeking a move away from Atalanta this summer, despite his contract running until 2027.

In an interview with Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf on Thursday, he is quoted as saying: “Last year there was already concrete interest from Napoli and the clubs ultimately negotiated with each other without results. I have indicated to Atalanta that I want to make a move next summer. But there must be something very nice to exchange that for Atalanta.”

He continued: “My girlfriend and I are having a great time in Italy.

“But I can endure the rain for some clubs in England. I hope there will be great options that I can think about. And then I hope that Atalanta receives a nice amount for me, because I had a wonderful time there.”

Liverpool's transfer plans

The direct reference to the rain in England will only fuel the rumours ahead of the summer transfer window, but whether Liverpool, having already undergone a midfield rebuild last summer, are likely to be interested remains to be seen.

Following the recent appointments of Michael Edwards as FSG's new CEO of football and Richard Hughes as sporting director, plans are now being put in place for the summer strategy.

Anfield Watch has previously reported that defence will be an area of focus for the Reds this summer, though other positions are likely to be targeted.

In addition to Liverpool, Koopmeiners has been linked with Manchester United, Tottenham and Juventus.

Liverpool fans will get a closer look at the midfielder when they face Atalanta in the Europa League quarter-finals next month.
