'Not possible': Liverpool place transfer on the back burner; desperate player must now wait

Liverpool have placed a transfer on the back burner as they depart for the USA. The player, desperate for a move to happen, must now wait.

Sepp van den Berg wants to leave Liverpool and he made that perfectly clear earlier in the transfer window. The defender gave an interview to De Telegraaf where he accused the club of hindering his future for extra cash.

The Reds have been reluctant to sell Van den Berg over the last few years, instead sending him on various loans. He feels that has left him in a worse position - and he's still unsure of his future.

The 22-year-old left no doubt of his desire to leave the club and reportedly, PSV Eindhoven would like to sign him. The Dutch champions are keen, though there are more doubts over paying Liveprool's £16m asking price.

Whatever is going to happen, everyone must now wait. Dutch journalist Rik Elfrink made that clear this week as he said that Van den Berg going on Liverpool's preseason tour rules out any imminent transfer to PSV.

"PSV target Sepp van den Berg is on a training camp in the United States with Liverpool," he wrote on X/Twitter. "A transfer to PSV in the very short term is therefore not possible yet.

"The Eindhoven team would love to sign him later in this transfer period."

Sepp van den Berg's future

Van den Berg will have a chance to earn a place in Liverpool's squad this season - that's the good news. It's just also very difficult to see how he fits in.

Liverpool are well-stocked in his positions and he'd have to seriously impress Arne Slot if he's to get a look-in beyond preseason. We still expect him to leave, then.

And so it's a shame for Van den Berg that he'll need to wait even longer to see if he gets a clear future. Liverpool, surely, will have sorted it for him by the time the season starts.
