Liverpool named as suitors for Premier League's hottest marksman of 2024

Fulham goalscoring sensation Rodrigo Muniz has scored eight goals in his last eight Premier League appearances, including a beautifully-taken overhead kick in the weekend draw against Sheffield United.

The Brazilian frontman has certainly taken his time to find his feet with his luck largely deserting him in front of goal for the Cottagers since signing from Flamengo for €8 million back in 2021.

He even struggled to make the grade in the Championship, first for Fulham and again last season when he was on loan with Middlesbrough.

However, 2024 has brought some sensational form for the 22-year-old who has taken the English top flight by storm, becoming league’s top scorer for the calendar year thus far.

Fulham went into the season without top scorer Aleksandar Mitrovic, who moved to Al-Hilal, and were short on goals in the first half of the campaign.

That led them to signing Armando Broja on loan from Chelsea but the Albanian has barely got a look in due to Muniz’s season catching light.

His exploits have been so profound that Fulham manager Marco Silva is now being inundated with questions about renewing the striker’s contract.

Muniz’s current terms expire in 2026, with the club holding an option to extend that by a further year.

"He signed five years in 2021 and there is an option [for an additional year] in the contract,” Silva told the Evening Standard

"Are we going to do something soon or summer or next season? We have to wait. We are calm about that situation. It's not going to be situations like contracts that will disturb his run."

Liverpool and Chelsea interested in Rodrigo Muniz

That won’t be enough to quieten the emerging transfer rumours around Muniz with Liverpool and Chelsea now being named as Premier League suitors.

Brazilian reporter Mauro Sant Anna, who covers Flamengo, has claimed that the Reds along with Mauricio Pochettino’s side are showing interest in signing the South American.

Liverpool’s post-Jurgen Klopp structure is not yet finalised with new sporting director Richard Hughes set to come in at the end of the season

However, there is no doubt that the Reds will be considering transfer targets for next season and beyond. RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko is among the other strikers named as potentially being monitored by the Merseysiders

Whether Muniz fits into those plans remains to be seen.
