Fabrizio Romano claims Liverpool are right on the brink of a summer transfer. They’re set to sign one of Chelsea’s most promising talents.

Fabrizio Romano revealed this week that Liverpool were closing in on a move for Chelsea academy player Rio Ngumoha. The teenager is leaving the Blues - and the Reds have moved to the front of the queue.

Romano made it clear that Liverpool see this is a big get. They're breaking their academy wage structure to get the deal over the line, such is the hype around Ngumoha.

And in an update on Tuesday, Romano confirmed that Liverpool are on the brink of a deal. Things are down to the formalities of the deal - something that could be done very quickly.

"Rio Ngumoha [is] ready to complete his move to Liverpool as exclusively revealed yesterday with final details being discussed," he wrote on X.

"Formal steps to follow with Liverpool really confident to make it happen as they've been leading the race for one week."

There isn't much standing in the way of this one, then. Liverpool are very close to something of a coup - even if it's one they'll have to wait to see the full impact of.

Liverpool near deal for Rio Ngumoha

Ngumoha has long been one of the brightest prospects in both Chelsea and England's youth systems. The fact that he's even open to move is notable, let alone that Liverpool front the queue to get him.

The Reds have made it a mission of theirs in recent years to snap-up the best talent in the UK. Not all of them make the grade, of course, but we've seen the likes of Harvey Elliott, Kaide Gordon, Ben Doak, Conor Bradley and Bobby Clark have their moments over the last two years.

Ngumoha is incredibly well-placed to do just that - and may end up being one of the better ones.
