Liverpool transfer news: 'Real chance' Reds 'revive' £85m deal later this summer

Liverpool have a 'real chance' of reigniting their interest in Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon this summer, according to one journalist. 

The Reds had been in discussions with Newcastle at the end of June as the Magpies looked to offload players before the PSR (profit and sustainability regulations) deadline, but a move failed to materialise.

Liverpool were unwilling to let Jarell Quansah head in the other direction as part of a deal, while Newcastle's £85m valuation of Gordon for an orthodox transfer put the Reds off pursuing the winger any further.

Now that the PSR deadline has passed, Newcastle are no longer required to part ways with their top talents, making a Liverpool move for the former Everton star increasingly unlikely.

However, journalist David Lynch has offered a glimmer of hope to Liverpool supporters, suggesting that the Reds could 'revive' their interest in Gordon later this summer.

Speaking with Anfield Agenda, Liverpool specialist Lynch provided an update on interest in Gordon.

"On Anthony Gordon I think that’s one that has a real chance of being revived maybe later in the window," he claimed.

"Because the contract situation is there. That leaves Newcastle in a weak position in terms of negotiating, even though they've got past all the PSR trouble that they've got.

"The player would desperately love to play for Liverpool and there's all that reported interest in Luis Diaz."

Liverpool winger Diaz has been linked with a move to Barcelona this summer, as well as Paris Saint-Germain, and the Reds would reportedly sanction an exit for around £75m.

That would provide them with the funds to sign Gordon, with Diaz's future likely to become clearer when he joins up with his teammates for pre-season training.

The 23-year-old Newcastle winger would be an excellent signing given his age, potential and the fact that he's a boyhood Liverpool fan.

He produced 11 goals and ten assists in the Premier League last season, with his blistering pace and energetic disposition making him a nightmare to defend.
