Fabrizio Romano reveals MAJOR update on Mo Salah's Liverpool future

Mohamed Salah has enjoyed an electrifying start to the season, scoring three goals and providing three assists in Liverpool’s first three games, but the Egyptian King has less than a year left on his contract.

After another stunning performance against Manchester United at Old Trafford, in which Salah was involved in all three goals, the 32-year-old revealed that he hadn’t had any contact with the club over a new deal.

As well as Salah, Liverpool’s captain Virgil van Dijk and vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold are also out of contract at the end of this season, and Arne Slot has been very reserved with what he’s willing to share about the trio’s contract situations.

Salah has faced some backlash for his comments after the Old Trafford victory but he has not let his contract situation affect his on-pitch performance and he has been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month for August.

The latest on Salah’s contract

It has now been revealed by Fabrizio Romano on his YouTube channel that Liverpool will begin contract negotiations with Salah over the next few days and that the forward is “very keen” on signing a new deal and is “very happy” with new boss Slot.

Additionally, Paul Gorst of the Liverpool ECHO has reported that it is understood that Salah is “desperate” to extend his stay at Anfield.

Salah was the subject of interest from Saudi Arabia last summer but all advances were rejected and Salah scored 24 goals and provided 14 assists in Jürgen Klopp’s final season in Merseyside.

“Having had the Saudi Pro League's riches wafted in his face last August when FSG president Mike Gordon personally declined a £150m offer from Al-Ittihad, the Reds' No.11 is now thinking only of extending his stay as it stands,” Gorst wrote for the Liverpool ECHO.

Salah’s importance to Liverpool

Although Luis Diaz has matched Salah’s goal tally so far this season, it is obvious from Liverpool’s opening three Premier League matches that the Egyptian will be the main threat for Liverpool once again this campaign.

Salah is currently Liverpool's highest earner, being paid a reported £350,000 a week, and any new deal will almost certainly see him remain the top earner at Anfield.

Salah is the only remaining member of the iconic attacking trio that won both the Champions League and the Premier League under Klopp and, although both Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino now play in the Saudi Pro League, it doesn’t appear Salah has any desire to join them.

The Egyptian King has already proved his importance to Liverpool this season and supporters will be pleased to hear that contract discussions are set to take place.
