Martin Zubimendi: Local news in Spain drops a MAJOR update on Liverpool transfer
Local news in Spain have dropped a major update on Liverpool’s pursuit of Martin Zubimendi. The Reds want to sign the midfielder.
As you may have heard, Liverpool want to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad. News broke all over the place on Wednesday, with suggestions from all corners that the Reds had honed in on their ideal target for the no.6 position.
But wanting to sign him and actually signing him are two different things. Standing in their way is a £51m release clause that Sociedad almost certainly want Liverpool to pay in full.

After all, £51m is a fair price for a player of Zubimendi’s quality and La Real have very few reasons to negotiate down. If Liverpool want him, they’ll need to pay that clause.
But local news in the Basque Country claims the Reds will do just that. In fact, Sociedad know that Liverpool intend to pay the clause and that this move is entirely down to Zubimendi.
Noticias de Gipuzkoa makes that claim - and their understanding is that the player will accept the offer. He’s been ‘seduced’ by the Reds and is expected to move.
Martin Zubimendi to Liverpool
So as far as local news understands, Zubimendi is on his way to Liverpool for £51m. Things could now move very quickly because if the Reds really are willing to pay the clause, there’s very little negotiation to be had.
But it’s worth mentioning that there could be a twist or two here. Manchester United are also linked with Zubimendi and we all know how much they like to jump in with enormous offers and drive prices up.
Hopefully, Liverpool have the Zubimendi side of things all sewn up before anyone else drives up his wage demands. This one feels close - and today could see further major updates.
