Liverpool have set a deadline on a deal for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, who is still yet to make a decision on a move to Anfield.

The Reds are eager to wrap up a deal for the 25-year-old and are willing to pay his £51m release clause, but Real Sociedad are also keen to keep the Spanish international in San Sebastian.

Liverpool are doing everything in their power to convince the Euro 2024 winner to move to Merseyside but his special affinity with his boyhood club makes a deal more complicated.

However, the Reds can't wait forever for Zubimendi to come to a final decision and they have now set a deadline on the transfer.

Wednesday deadline set for Zubimendi deal

According to journalist Mikel Recalde, Liverpool need Zubimendi to make his mind up on an Anfield switch by Wednesday, or else they will have to move on to other targets.

The report states that Zubimendi is still yet to choose where he will play his football in 2024/25 but both Liverpool and Real Sociedad want his future sorted out as soon as possible.

Given there are only a few weeks of the transfer window left, Liverpool need to focus their attention elsewhere if Zubimendi chooses to stay in Spain, while Real Sociedad need to sign his replacement should he move to England.

The La Liga outfit are already set to lose Mikel Merino to Arsenal and may need to bring in several new midfielders before the window shuts.

Apparently, Real Sociedad's communications department have cancelled all interviews with the squad's players until the uncertain futures of the two midfielders are decided.

The report also states that Zubimendi has been offered a pay rise by Real Sociedad in an attempt to persuade him to stay, but the Spaniard remains unsure on what he will do next.

Liverpool will be able to make a significantly stronger financial offer to the player but it's believed that money isn't influential in his decision.
