Liverpool consider shock £70m move for Marc Guehi after rivals FAIL with bid

Liverpool are looking into a deal for a £70m England star, according to reports. This comes after a Premier League rival failed with a bid.

The Athletic reports that Liverpool are one of the clubs looking at a move for Marc Guehi right now. The England defender is reportedly available to leave Crystal Palace - but only if a club meets his lofty asking price.

That price is £70m all in. Palace want £65m guaranteed with another £5m in add-ons and are willing to be hardline here. Newcastle United have already failed with a series of bids, including £60m + £5m.

It appears it must be £70m all in or it's not happening.

This comes as Joe Gomez's future is up in the air. Anfield Watch exclusively revealed that Gomez could leave before the end of last season and the defender was left out of Liverpool's squad to face Ipswich as he considers his future.

Gomez isn't the only one who could leave, either. The Reds may sell three defenders before the transfer window closes at the end of the month, freeing up space for an incoming.

Guehi could be that incoming player - if Liverpool are willing to meet the asking price.

Liverpool consider Marc Guehi

This is a very interesting one but it'll come down to how highly Arne Slot rates his current options. Virgil van Dijk is Virgil van Dijk, so we know Slot rates him.

Jarell Quansah and Ibrahima Konaté are more interesting ones to consider, though. Slot started with Quansah against Ipswich but subbed him off for Konaté at half-time, admitting that the side 'needed' the Frenchman.

At the same time, he initially believed Quansah was the better choice. It's not entirely clear who he sees as Van Dijk's main partner this season - and it could be that he'd prefer it were Guehi.

But we can't imagine Guehi or any defender arriving unless there are a couple of outgoings. Gomez would have to be one, with Sepp van den Berg also likely needing to move away for a centre-back signing to make sense.

It could end up being a busy couple of weeks, then. But we won't hold our breath on that.
