Liverpool STRIKE £35m Giorgi Mamardashvili deal

Liverpool have now struck a verbal agreement on a £35m transfer. The Reds might finally get their first signing of the summer.

Spanish journalist Hector Gomez claims Liverpool now have a verbal agreement with Valencia for Giorgi Mamardashvili. The Reds will guarantee around £30m for the goalkeeper, with a 10% sell-on clause in the deal.

There are two important factors to consider, though. The first is that Mamardashvili will not join Liverpool for at least another year. He's to remain with Valencia for the upcoming season and only next year will he possibly move to Merseyside.

We say 'possibly' because Liverpool and Valencia have an option to extend the loan by another year. It could be that we don't see the Georgian in Red until 2026.

The other factor is that this is just a verbal agreement. It all needs putting on paper and signing - so there's still a little way to go just yet before an announcement.

But Liverpool are on the brink of a transfer here. No, it won't be one that boosts Arne Slot's squad, nor is it in any of the positions people wanted.

It is a transfer, though! So at least the summer isn't proving to be a total bust.

Liverpool to sign Mamardashvili

There were reports late last night that Liverpool and Valencia had hit a stumbling block over the percentage of Mamardashvili's wages the Spaniards should pay. It appears that wasn't much of an issue, though, as things have moved on quickly.

That was the second major block in proceeds. The other was what Mamardashvili would do this season. Initially, he was to head to Bournemouth but Premier League rules appear to have stopped that.

Everything has apparently been smoothed out, though. Mamardashvili is one of the most promising goalkeepers around right now and Liverpool may be getting a bargain here.
