It was revealed yesterday that Federico Chiesa was on his way to Merseyside as Liverpool and Juventus have agreed a deal for the player.

Liverpool have been interested in the 26-year-old for a while and it looks as though a deal has now been agreed just days before the transfer deadline.

Fabrizio Romano revealed yesterday that a deal was agreed for an initial €13 million plus add-ons and that the player was on his way to Liverpool to carry out a medical.

The deal has received a mixed reaction online, both from Liverpool supporters and fans of other clubs.

What Liverpool fans are saying

Whilst many Liverpool fans are excited at the prospect of adding the 51-capped Italian to the front line, there are some who feel that Liverpool should be prioritising other positions.

It has been reported throughout the summer that Liverpool wanted to bring a wide forward to Anfield and it appears that Chiesa will be that man, but this was not the only position Richard Hughes and Arne Slot were looking to strengthen.

Liverpool were part of a very public transfer saga for Martín Zubimendi that ended with the Spaniard staying put at Real Sociedad and they have also been heavily linked with a number of centre backs.

The key talking point amongst Liverpool supporters following the Chiesa news is the low fee that has been reportedly agreed between the clubs.

Will Chiesa be a good fit at Liverpool?

The main worry for most Liverpool supporters is Chiesa’s injury record, with the forward having missed nine months of football in 2022 following a cruciate ligament tear.

Since then, Chiesa has struggled with a number of smaller injuries but last season managed to play in 33 of Juventus’ 38 Serie A games and he also featured heavily for Italy at the Euros.

Juventus fan @DanielEzequiel1 replied to Anfield Watch on X saying: “Chiesa's playing style fits Liverpool perfectly. He will explode at Anfield”

Its unclear how big a role Chiesa will play for Liverpool if this signing is completed but for such a minimal fee many will feel that this is a low-risk transfer that could end up as a great bit of business from Liverpool.
