Liverpool transfer news: Arthur Melo could return to Merseyside with Everton

Liverpool's worst signing of the Jurgen Klopp era could be about to return to Merseyside, with rivals Everton preparing an offer for Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo.

Arthur joined Liverpool on loan for the 2022/23 season in what turned out to be an awful panic deal on deadline day.

The injury-prone Brazilian was on the fringes of the Juventus squad but the Reds signed him to help bolster a midfield that was already lacking options.

However, it turned out to be a catastrophic piece of business for Jurgen Klopp's side, with Arthur turning out for a grand total of 13 minutes in a Liverpool shirt.

That single substitute appearance came off the bench in a 4-1 Champions League defeat to Napoli, with Arthur stuck in the treatment room for the rest of his time on Merseyside.

Despite failing disastrously at Liverpool due to injuries, Arthur returned to Italy and shone during the 2023/24 season following a loan spell with Fiorentina.

The 22-cap Brazil international provided two goals and four assists across 48 matches for the Italian outfit and is now interesting Liverpool's Merseyside rivals Everton.

EVERTON PREPARING ARTHUR MELO OFFER SOON

According to Brazilian outlet UOL, Arthur is no longer in Juventus' plans despite the arrival of new head coach Thiago Motta this summer.

As a result, the Old Lady are happy to part ways with the midfielder, and Everton 'will soon make an official offer' for the former Liverpool loanee.

Despite interest from Brazil as well, Arthur wants to continue his career in Europe.

Everton have been busy in the transfer market already and are now in pursuit of a player that can help fill Amadou Onana's shoes, with the Belgian international about to join Aston Villa.

Arthur is seemingly one of their priority targets and it will be interesting to see how he fares should he get a second crack at the Premier League.

If a deal materialises, Arthur would become only the 13th player to have made a senior appearance for both Liverpool and Everton, adding his name to a list that includes Peter Beardsley, Abel Xavier and, most recently, Conor Coady.
