Two Liverpool transfer sagas could come to an end when one deal is officially announced later this week.

Dani Olmo is a player that Liverpool have been monitoring throughout the summer, however it now looks like a move back to Barcelona is imminent for the 26-year-old.

Fabrizio Romano revealed on X that Barcelona have reached a verbal agreement with RB Leipzig for a fee rising to €62 million (£53 million) for the transfer of Olmo.

Olmo impressed for Spain at the Euros and this only intensified rumours that Liverpool were ready to trigger his £50 million release clause that has since expired.

How could this affect Liverpool?

Although this deal obviously means that Liverpool won’t get their hands on the Spanish playmaker it could also lead to the conclusion of another stretched out transfer saga.

Barcelona’s interest in Liverpool winger Luis Díaz has been widely reported but the club's financial issues are well documented and this could mean that, after a big outlay on Olmo, Barca can no longer afford to bring in the Colombian.

Although Díaz’s future has been uncertain at Liverpool for the last few months, the 27-year-old returned to training this week and appears to be committed to Liverpool for this season.

Liverpool’s transfer plans

Liverpool’s interest in England star Anthony Gordon has also been no secret, with a deal almost being struck at the end of June, but Diaz staying put could hamper any chance of Gordon returning to Merseyside.

It was also believed that Liverpool were potentially in the market for two new wide forwards, but it can be assumed that for two new players to be added to the front line at least one current Liverpool forward would have to be sacrificed.

Díaz is yet to play under Slot and so hasn’t had a chance to prove himself under the new boss but, unless Barcelona are able to raise some funds through player sales or another suitor comes in for the former Porto man, it looks like Díaz is set to stay put at Anfield this season.
